Someday…

Earlier this year we had the opportunity to work with Gus from Someday Fabrications. A Melbourne based apparel company focusing on creating well-crafted garments that draw inspiration from vintage work wear.

Gus came to us to create a one-off illustration for Someday Fabrications which could live across different applications including hats, shirts, and winter wear.

Reference from Gus that was used as inspiration to create the Slowly Surely Illustration.

The images that Gus sent to us as reference all came from vintage and work wear clothing tags. The main aesthetic that we wanted to capture from these images was the bold vintage typography, colour palette and the layout hierarchy.

Gus said that he would really love the idea of a hare sitting on a tortoise illustrated, with the text “Slowly Surely” also somewhere in the mix. Scouring the internet for animal references, we ended up finding some images that helped capture the right anatomy, scale and all the details that were important.

Through a few rounds of design we explored various layouts, font choices, colour ways and different compositions for the hare & tortoise illustration. In the end we landed on a composition where the hare is facing backwards but has his head forward, in an almost hesitant way, but still progressing forward.

This is the final result below.

The illustration was also modified to suit the application to smaller areas. We were thrilled how the illustration came out how it was used across the different items across the range.
